Instead of this thread being about Muslims, can someone please explain to me what good the EDL actually does?

I'm not sure it is an immigration debate though. Both the Woolwich and the 7/7 terrorists were born here, the problems that caused these people to be the way they are/were must therefore lie somewhere in our own society. Apologies for not having the poll at hand I will look for it at some other point, but sympathies with extremists tend to come from the youth who were born and brought up in Britain as opposed to the older generations that first immigrated here. While the EDL and other moronic groups would probably love for all Muslims to be deported, where are they going to deport them to? Leicester?

Combating extremism for me can be done through further integration or at least more contact and respect for the group of another. Chances are most Muslim extremists will have had little contact with those they wish to attack, while most members of the EDL have probably only had limited contact with Muslims.

I fail to see any equivalence between the practice of Islam and the practice of slavery. Nor am I excusing behavior on the grounds of culture in any way.

It's a pretty simple concept. Would you say the practice of slavery means all white people are evil? If not, then why say that All Muslims are the equivalent of slavers? It's the same type of bigoted statement. That is what I am taking issue with here.

Islam is not an evil religion and Islamic people are not evil people so quit trying to compare them to some other people who were evil as if that justifies bigotry toward Islamic people.

Now if you would like to say that Al Qaeda is the equivalent of the EDL, and both are evil you will get no argument from me. The thing I don't like is trying to paint an entire demographic (like all white people or all Muslim people) with this broad brush and comparing them to slavers or Hitler or whatever simply because someone doesn't like their religion and they think that justifies attacking them because of it.
