Unless you are going to an Ivy league private schools aren't worth it. I can not imagine paying 40-60k on just tuition per year. Public schools and CC are definitely still worth it as long as you have a plan. The problem is that people have been adopting slowly and are too willing to go into student loan debt.

That's kinda how I look at student debt. People tell me their debt balances and I think to myself...what kind of car would that have bought? And what would be a better thing to be in the hole on?

Is a seriously shitty situation to be in, though, with an unemployable major and some crazy debt level from not at least working part time to pay your living expenses. Can't buy a Corvette on what you make part time at Taco Bell. To say nothing of a Ferrari.

I'm speaking from personal experience. I'm from the south. The south is dirt cheap to live. The city I'm from (Conway, AR) is one of the cheapest places in america. You can rent an apartment in the best part of town for as cheap as $600-700 a month. That's the BEST part. You can get decent housing for less than $500 a month. But being a minority who is single, good luck finding a social circle in a dry bible belt town with a black population of 3% and a church on every other street corner.

My entire point being, that's easy for you to say. "just move to where it's rural". That's not an enticing option for all for the aforementioned reasons. Every person in my family when of age leaves Arkansas. Only white people leave NY, DC Atlanta, to COME TO places like Arkansas, Kansas, Alabama, Iowa, etc.
