People who are gay in today's society get very upset when people do not accept their "gayness." It's almost as though they demand tolerance from others but have no tolerance from those that do not accept it. Gays aren't the only group of people that have trouble getting acceptance in our society. People in religions that are different than the "main stream" are considered to be members of cults. People have trouble gaining acceptance based on where they were born, their skin color, religion, sexual preference.
The biggest problem that I see is the demand that they be accepted. Rather than demanding, they need to work to better explain and educate. Due to media coverage and the stories that we all heard over the years, when a man says he's gay many think of the Catholic Priest and altar boys. Gay men and women don't want to jump into bed with every straight person to try and convert them. However, we've all seen prison movies where people are forced into homosexual sex. It's really an image problem that needs a good PR campaign.
