islam is the final revelation. there are many who would not suffer the jews, who rejected the prophet (and were slaughtered by the prophet himself for it, as noted in the hadith) for theirs is an earlier less complete one. why bother allowing them to live when it is known they are wrong. but they have been doing this all alone
what would forced conversions be, other than terrorism?

Re OP, you don't have to be "friends" with someone to be able to talk to them.
I don't think anyone considered the US and USSR "friends". Yet, we had regular discussions with them about nuclear weapons and other matters.
Heck, we had better diplomatic relations with the USSR than we have/had with Cuba or Iran! How effed up is that?
