he's not wrong though. you're making the claim that two countries different languages, different religions, different political systems, different cultures, and different views of western values are identical because both do things you disagree with. to prove this you provided two wiki links that both follow "sharia" law, which is about as vague as saying something like "they follow common-law". variations in shariah depend on which school of law it's drawn from, to begin with. right off the bat i can tell you the shia ones are a hell of a lot different from the sunni ones. but then you have to, ya know, actually examine how both function and the degrees to which they adhere to secular authority. on that front, both vary wildly from one another.

then you have the whole funding of terrorists thing, which i explained the differences in both. what iran does is no different than what we do in terms of funding extra-national groups. what the saudis do is on a whole other level of awful.

denying the gulf of differences between the two countries and claiming they're the same definitely makes one call in to question whether or not you're bigoted towards middle easterners. it's like someone china and japan are the exact same because they have vaguely similar things about them. in the case of the latter someone would obviously be called bigoted, so it follows for it to apply to the former as well.
