popular vote would within a few election cycles ensure the house of representatives chooses every president. either that or just tyranny of the majority. you want politics to be more civil? removing electoral college is the exact wrong way to go about it

coalitions are a good thing. it forces parties to work together.

This probably makes me a bad person, but I don't vote for President of the US and probably won't while I live in Texas. I can tell you without a doubt who is going to win this state's votes and as such it makes no sense to me to go out and vote (regardless of who I'd vote for). My issue is my vote truly doesn't count if I don't vote for the winning party and I have a problem with that.
Now, if there was an election coming up where I wasn't sure which way the state would go, I'd vote. But otherwise, no point.
