You'd need a situation in which men and women are deliberately separated in order to make any comparison, and they couldn't be family members. Bumrushing a guy with a rifle is a whole lot easier when the target is someone you intimately care about. And of course the overarching culture matters - mass shootings in 1970s Canada were basically unheard of. Whereas every college kid these days has at least run through some hypotheticals.
Also, Brazilians and Texans tend to be armed. French Canadians tend to be opposed to being armed.
The bystander effect is everywhere. It isn't unique to Canada or any nation. Some woman gets raped on her front porch and 30 people pass by - are American men uniquely sissy????!!!
