I love how this is all now being lauded as a reverse Nixon/Kissinger. Yeah, Nixon totally ran on a "re-unite with China" platform and was very open about his intentions - and Kissinger is now replaced by Bannon - the new oracle of our day.

Gimme a break. Did the Chinese invade Georgia under Bush? Did the Chinese invade Ukraine under Obama? Did the Chinese attempt to influence a democratic election in the US? No. They went full communist and we ended all diplomatic relations for 25 years. If you honestly believe that Trump is trying to realign Russia into the US fold and against China that's fine...it's just f**k dumb in light of just how much Putin has trusted the US in the past. In the very recent past.

Seriously - why in the f**k would Putin want to do any of this with the US if he knows Trump's time is limited? There is no long term guarantee. And if Trump can't corral "the deep state" what f**k difference does make what Trump is trying to do? He's still an idiot because he's trying to do something that isn't politically possible right now.

To both see Trump's strategery here as a laudable goal and achievable in any fashion after two decades of Putin acting like this towards the West...just jesus man. Get some perspective. Did you look into Putin's eyes too? Maybe you've got a big "RESET" button you'd like to present to a Russian delegation?

We've been enabling Putin for two decades now. We've approached him repeatedly in an attempt to form better ties. No dice. But you want to try again? What the f**k?

The only policy that should be considered towards Russia right now is one of strength: retaliate and let them know they've gone too far and we're not going to take it anymore. Russia does indeed have a small economy - it's ability to project military strength is limited - send them a message that this is the reality. Call their bluff. Everybody freaks out because they have nukes but you know what - Putin still invaded Georgia/Ukraine. They tried to hack our election? Ok, utilize our cyber capabilities to temporarily immobilize their power grid. Do that for a week. Do something, anything, that doesn't necessarily hurt anyone but that sends a very clear message.
