Rape evolved as a reproductive strategy for males who had no access to females in early human history when the social structure was basically a dominant male who reserved all of the females for himself.

For the subordinate males to have a chance to procreate they had to subdue females when they were away from the dominant male's protection.

Since these subordinate males were able to procreate this behavior was passed on to the next generation.
