Also, canceling the F-22 for the F-35 is one of the US's biggest mistakes. That is the absolute best air superiority fighter to have ever existed. Totally unstoppable.

Yup. My engineer loves the idea of integration, parts standardization, etc..... But it's just not good.

ps....have we ever been able to come up with a modular weapon system with our allies? lord knows we've tried...battle rifles in the 1950s, MBT in the 1970s, etc....seems everyone eventually just splits off and does there own thing.
which begs the question, why didn't we just adopt the FN FAL?

We didn't adopt it because the M-4 is the best rifle ever

Ya, but that was a long time ago. With the A3 and A4 they've got it pretty much unkinked. Just to be different I bought a Sig 556 years ago. Surprisingly, it was a fairly problematic rifle. Had to have the receiver modified twice. Strange feeding problems. Sold it.
