I find it laughable that such large chunks of the country would not be aware of Daesh. As you know, Saracen, it's likely been even bigger news in the Muslim world than elsewhere.

To be fair, at least in the context of rednecks, and considering how many of them don't even know the world revolves around the sun, how many think Obama is a Muslim, how many think Iraq attacked the WTC, etc..its reasonable that a great many people might not know what Daesh actually is. They've probably heard of it, and lumped it in with whatever generalization of people they believe in. But to have any sort of correct understanding of it...I'm betting there are vast numbers without a clue. To them, its probably "Them damned A-rabs" or what have you. No distinctions necessary.

Assuming of course this is what Saracen meant.

Of course...rural N America, an entire world, culture, and language away is quite a bit different from Turkey. Which is driving distance from all of this.
