IMO mandatory minimum sentencing and even judicial precedence are forms of lazy behaviour by the judicial system. The reason I think this is because both practices do their best to ignore extenuating circumstances in legal cases. They simply look at the general legal issues at a very basic level, match that to previous cases tried that have the same legal issue and then determine their decision on previous decisions instead of trying the current case on its own merits. I think that makes these practices complete bullshit.
