Comrade doesn't have a suggestion for Afghanistan. He is referring to a suggestion that I made to get some lulz. Essentially I argued that going into Afghanistan was the worst thing we could have done, and we should have bombed them until they handed over those responsible for 9/11. No occupation, no involvement in setting up alliances meant to counter the Taliban, no boots on the ground - a good ol' bombing campaign to force the Afghans to take care of the problem themselves or face destruction. Either that or just close the borders and negotiate with the Taliban.

Eventually we both refused to budge and gave up the argument. But why pass up the opportunity to beat a dead horse?

Comrade argued that the civilian deaths resulting from such a campaign would increase extremism, resulting in more international terrorism. I didn't buy that argument since I don't see how we could have avoided causing more extremism, but you may want to consider his POV.

Also, he thought it wouldn't work, because AQ and the Taliban would just flee into the mountains. They would do that no matter what, but again, something to consider before you agree with my suggestion.

War crimes are bullshit. War itself is a crime intended to force an opponent into submission. There is no reason to do it nicely, and the more we pretend you can, the more bullshit conflicts we'll get into.
