Well, I agree that war should be off the table. But I don't think Putin is close to cornered yet. He enjoys too much popular support, too much cronyism, to be really in danger of losing his crown. The Russians are currently doing a shopping blitz to turn rubles into TV sets, washing machines, and laptops. They know how f**k their situation is. But they blame the West, not Putin.

We're talking about a guy who thinks it hilarious to invite his huge dogs to state meetings with Merkel because he knows she has a personal fear of them. He's still in gamesmanship mode. He's jerking off to all of this.

Oil is the larger factor but the devaluation of the Ruble was caused in part by Russia's central bank printing money to assist Rosneft, which can't refinance existing debt due to sanctions.
