I mean you've admitted that people with more money have significantly more influence than everybody else. In a country where basically all wealth is centered at the very very top this suggests we barely have a Republican form of government at all.

You guys don't really have a system, per say. More like a conglomerate of systems, which have been steadily manipulated far from their intended purpose.

The very first thing you need to do before you can even consider fixing these issues is create a constitutionally-mandated, national electoral commission. There is literally no good reason to have separate electoral policies in every state (as a general rule).

Once you have that, you'll have a mechanism for delivering changes. Until then you will only ever be fighting a losing retreat from the forces of big capital and private machination.

I haven't seen any major republicans call for abolishing the electoral college. And why would they? They've lost the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 elections.

And if the GOP seeks fair representation their predilection toward gerrymandering seems curious at best.

Without the electoral college system, states like Wyoming, Vermont, Alaska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Delaware and Montana wouldn't matter, at all.
