I don't know, does anybody else have trouble thanking veterans for their sacrifice? I mean those engaged in contemporary warfare? WWI or WWII, Korea, or even Vietnam. I get it. Conscripted. No choice. I respect them and thank them when needed. But today? All volunteer? Fighting wars against countries whose GDP doesn't even register on the give a f**k o meter? It's like they're entitled to my respect simply by joining. I have a seriously hard time with that as I know that many others will hate on me if I do anything rash in public.

But it's annoying.

It's a changing paradigm. Nationalism is eroding as a valid concept, and the inherent honor in military service is eroding with it. I give my full respect to vets who I believe for whatever reason joined for the right reasons, fought according to the rough hewn rules of war, and would appreciate recognition for it.

The kids that go to Iraq because Walmart fired them for misc transgression and they can't think of anything else to do... not really respect worthy, and not going to end well.
