But in today's news, the Kurds have teamed up with Papa Bear Assad to take on the turks. Which means they have support from Russia (aka the Syrian military) and Iran. Somehow these guys weren't so helpless and managed to find an alternative. They probably would have cut a deal with assad 5 years ago if we didn't fool them into thinking we would back an independent Kurdistan. Den of vipers over there, etc.

If I'm Putin here's what I do:

-Insert myself between Syrian and Turkish forces (done)
-Hide behind pretense of fostering peaceful reconciliation (yep)
-Stoke divisions in order to perpetuate conflict (been doing this a while)
-Generate further sales of weapons to all sides (likely)
-Drive further wedge in NATO by forcing Turkey's hand - and maybe Erdogan supports this as well since he's not getting EU membership anytime soon - have Turkey call on NATO after being attacked
-Either they support him or they figure out how to remove a member - that could further divide alliances
