Since $millions are paid for throwing a ball through a hoop or whatever, how can it be determined who deserves what $, for doing whatever? Seriously, what is the pecking order of our priorities?

Well...scarcity, I suppose. Rarer skillsets relative to demand for them are worth more.
I wouldn't say that qualifies as deserving, tho. Ideally really great people would do well and really shitty people would die in garbage can fires. But...meh. Life.
