Hey Dharma? how does one atone? Just curious because in terms of Slavery in particular you had the virtual eradication of the society that thrived on it.
a higher % of Southern Whites died or were disabled during the Civil War than the French lost in WW1:

considering a good chunk of Southern Whites (the hill folk) did their best to stay out of the war and that many Confederate Vets move West or North after the war and that figure becomes even more stark. In short you had an entire class of people, the Southern Yeomanry, go extinct.

yeah...jim crow and segregation sucked.
although many places in the South currently have vibrant African-American (as opposed to African/West Indies) middle-class communities.
not so much Denver or Minneapolis....two places that never really experienced segregation on the level of the South.
