It's actually not an absurd argument. We saw what happened when boomers embraced the "everyone should go to college" mentality with their kids and millennials were graduating at the height of a big recession. College grads waiting tables and working retail. And then you hear "well shoulda studied something more useful", which isn't untrue, but millennials were taught by their parents "just go to college, having the degree is what matters". I think we've judged that to be a mistake and now we're thinking more about what to go to school for, and what your career path plan is instead of "everyone go to college, doesn't matter where or what you're studying, just do it".
