So, he's ok with giving blacks medals, but not ok with them being able to vote. Clearly, this means he isn't racist.

One meeting with a racist group does not a white supremacist make. Particularly if Scalise is telling the truth and he didn't know what he was walking into.

That said, this is isolated incident #3958934 of coincidental republican association with something racist. Bottom line is that they need to get serious about making sure this stops happening. Even if it's all a big misunderstanding, the optics are a nightmare.

Clumping minority voters into a few concentrated districts isn't really a good thing. It gives them a few token seats held by black officials, but makes the needs of the black community irrelevant to the rest.
