It's a completely illogical comment because the only way for the rest of society to be assured that such people are indeed "normal" is to ask them for things like justification for buying the weapon, mental history, criminal background, firearm safety training, etc.

I bet combining cellphones and car keys kills and injures a lot of people too. No big call to ban either of those.
