Sovereignty resides in the state. Secession is a justifiable attack on such sovereignty when the seceding party has a normatively reasonable desire to do so.

The South attacked first. I agree that sovereignty comes from the people, but the people is the collective population of the United States, so to grant sovereignty to the south would take federal action, not a decision made on the state level.

What's hilarious is after the massacre in Charelston, nothing will be done about guns, and the Confederate Battle flag will still be on state flags, and over state capitals in the south.
