Argentina was definitely the aggressor... They were under military dictatorship, and then proceeded to invade a country that is largely British and supported British rule, despite the UK going out of their way to be accommodating and respectful of their claims to sovereignty by negotiating with them. The United States originally tried to arrange a peace... but Argentina refused, and so the US stopped selling them arms and started providing the British with material support.
