this is when customs such as bride price developed. modern wedding customs reflect this ancient pattern. such as not seeing the bride before the wedding. also the best man's function is to help ward off angry relatives trying to retrieve their valuable family member, and the honey moon is a relic of the period when a new husband had to get his bride away for a while until things cooled off and she got used to the idea of being married.
