There is also the fact that people who make that much money have a dramatically larger impact on infrastructure, which is the most costly part of government. A guy who owns a factory that relies upon tractor-trailers gets far more "use" out of the roads than a guy who works at McDonalds; that same factory owner might not want to pay health insurance, and so the cost of keeping his employees healthy and able to work is, again, passed onto the taxpayer. In order to ensure that their products are safe for public consumption, these companies require alot of oversight and regulation. Yet another cost borne by the taxpayer. The government steps in and decides it wants to expand manufacturing markets overseas; it enters into costly free trade negotiations with another country. Again, paid for the by the taxpayer.
Those who benefit more ought to pay more. Progressive taxation, justified.
