and as silly as it sounds, putin isn't going to risk an international incident with the olympics still on/still fresh. he has a lot, as far as future development and investment is concerned, riding on the games. don't think a week after them he'd just pull some black ops shit and ruin it all.

I don't know why a division of the country is being looked on so negatively. I don't think a unified Pakistan-India would be very stable or a unified slovenia-croatia would be very stable either. Many African countries should also split based on tribal/ cultural/ religious affiliations. I think countries can function better politically when they are comprised of a culturally homogeneous nation versus competing nations of people within one state.
