Our debt is accumulating at a rate far greater than we can pay off, and we are struggling just to pay the interest on our debt. This is a downward spiral, a death spiral, because nothing in the future shows us being able to get out of this. Nobody wants to cut the juicy stuff that would actually cut our spending, it would be political suicide. So while neither side is willing to jump in the water with a rope in their hand to pull the life raft to shore, we're getting blown further and further out to sea.
