I'm able to understand your position now, I just don't agree with it. The levels of sentience your talking about doesn't begin to make a creature close to being a human being so using a term reserved for the killing of one of our species for one of theirs doesn't make sense. It is my own opinion that killing an elephant for solely sporting purposes is wrong and would make you a disgusting person for participating in it, but it can not make you a murderer.

It comes across as hyperbole and imo actually detracts from the argument that this kind of thing is wrong. I don't support the fur industry but when someone throws red paint on old ladies in fur coats screaming "fur is teh murder!!!!!11" I sigh and become more agitated with the imbeciles on my own side of the issue rather than angry at the people supporting the fur trade.

I thought Ex. was arguing that the definition of murder should be expanded to include elephants, dolphins, and whatever else he deems to be sufficiently sentient to warrant inclusion. If that's not the case and he was just misusing the word murder to hype things up then disregard my last post.

you said that killing a "elephant, dolphin, whale or primate" is "murder". he was hunting lions. so how can you label him a murderer? they don't meet your own requirements.
