I think political symbolism of any kind should be treated with consistent mistrust if not extreme prejudice at all times.

It don't matter to me one way or the other. Keeping it don't mean that shit is still going on, banning it don't mean that shit never happened. There is no white man alive today (in this country) that still owns blacks. There is no black man alive today (in this country) that is owned by a white man.
The hardest part of doing nothing is knowing when your done.
