If the SC is so perfect, how could they rule one way on sodomy laws in 1986, and then the other way in 2003? How can both ways be right?

In Pace v. Alabama (1883), in Alabama, they ruled it illegal for whites and blacks to have sex. In 1967 it was overruled. If both ways are right, how can that be?
