the republicans, in their maniacal blood lust and hatred for people, have turned the "obamacare is going to fail" talking point into a self fulfilling prophecy. i'm not sure if it has been intentional or not, but any technical vote on amendments or repealing certain aspects of the bill in order to fix forseeable problems hasn't been allowed. instead of giving the bill a chance and waiting for it to actually be shown a broken, they're intentionally toying with millions of people's lives and coverage in order to force the bill to fail.

both parties are equally corrupt (in the legal sense) and equally self-serving, but jesus christ at least when charlie rangel diverts funds to name a youth center after himself it doesn't have the potential to destroy a group of people trying to seek healthcare, or get government aid, or whatever.

the thing is though, if they force obamacare to fail, no one is going to go "well let's just go back to how it was before". it's going to lead to a discussion about single-payer and a serious effort to get it passed. they're pretty dumb.

I can't be bothered to read the full posts and follow the debate here because I find the reactionary and extremist opposition to such a milquetoast, compromised health insurance reform incredibly f**k stupid and boring, but I must say, anyone who dismisses Dean Baker as anything other than one of the only legitimate, mainstream economists who foresaw the financial crisis that lay within the housing bubble and its inevitable collapse, whose warnings fell on deaf ears to great detriment, is someone who only deserves to be laughed and ridiculed out of the thread.
