If people run for office and get elected, then say the solution doesn't lie within the government implementing anything, that's not really offering a solution. So many republican politicians love to tout their private sector credentials but they can't wait to get into the public sector. Then once they get there, they claim the solution is back in the private sector they just abandoned. As a philosophy it's fine, but they shouldn't pretend like they're actually offering a solution when they get into office and say that kind of stuff.

Ha, now that is a great point. A different way of saying it than I do, which is "These guys hate gov't so much they want to... work for it?"

That's like hiring a guy who hates cooking as your head chef.

I think the gov't can be instrumental in pushing private companies towards free-market solutions. In this case left to their own devices clearly the private sector is not solving the health problem. Which is to be expected when by definition there interest is profit and not providing sufficient care.

The other irony being of course that these same leaders have kickass healthcare as part of their jobs... jobs in gov't.

Good point there WW. Republicans, and libertarians especially, believe that people are responsible for themselves, or should be for the most part. They acknowledge that people need a helping hand and are sometimes down on their luck and that's fine. There should be resources available to help them. But help being the keyword, not SUPPORT. The gov't tit should run out of milk eventually.

Same with health care. You don't have a right to health care, certainly not a right to free health care. Health care is a service, just like the AC repair man. I'd love to live in a nice cool house, but if I want that to happen, the AC guy is going to come do his work and I have to pay him for it. No money, no AC. Now I know people say you can't compare AC repairmen and healthcare. On the surface, no you can't. But deep down, you can. They are both services offered to those who can afford to pay. As it is, you get free emergency services and always did. But if you break your arm and want a splint, you gotta pay for it.

If more people took care of themselves and relied less on the gov't, the world would be a better place. Individual responsibility.
