Dude, I can make like ten pounds of vegetarian chilli for under $10, and that includes all my beans, vegetables, seasoning, etc. There is simply no way to look at meat as being "less expensive," even if you do go by calories. It also isn't good for you - the problem facing North Americans isn't calories, it is getting the vitamins and nutrients they need. If you are to factor in the costs of health care caused by excessive meat eating, it is especially expensive.
