As to Vietnam:
I remember having a conversation with a Chinese Vet about how that war influenced their military's "don't confront the US" policy. (shrug) who knows, the Vietnam war may have prevented a worse war with China or the Soviets later on.

The Germans got very lucky.. If the US took our toys and troops and went home after WWII the Russians, with the French's blessing might have wiped Germany off the map.. Both, and others in Europe were tired of fighting the F'ing Germans every 20-30 years..
I have no sympathy for the Germans during or after WWII... They should have got worse..
