I've never noticed a portion difference abroad vs here. I've read about it. Never noticed it myself though.
Corn syrup is do easy to avoid. Just eat foods thst don't come in a package. Problem solved.

I'm big on brown rice and beans. They come in a package though (rice in a bag and the beans in a can). I make a big pot once a week and it lasts me all week at one bowl a day. Hot sauce for flavor. Tons of fiber and protein. Also crazy cheap. The weeks worth of daily servings costs me less than 8 bucks.

Rice and beans is very solid. I've read the two compliment each other well nutrition wise but I don't recall why. I think they combine or something while being digested.
