There's no "need" to call a heterosexual union a marriage either. It symbolizes a special bond between people that is given a lot of weight in our society. There needs to be a more valid reason to exclude people from it then lack of a "need" or the mere fact that those two people can't create a biological child (and note that plenty of straight couples can't or won't have kids).
