I agree with pretty much everything but I still don't think it's so much a socioeconomic issue as much as it is a traditional non nuclear family issue.
Everyone always asks.. well, there are poor white people too and they don't commit crimes like poor black people and to an extent they are right.
The issue, that never gets talked about because it's feminisms dirt secret is that 3-4 out of 5 black kids in america are raised in a single parent house hold, regardless of income.
Let what I'm about to say sink in. My parents divorced when I was 7. I grew up, including family members, kids from school, girls I dated, etc, I've known... and I've spent 10 mins thinking about this..8 kids / people that had both parents at home.
Quincy my best friend. He has a college degree now and is a music teacher. Taught me how to play the piano growing up.
Ashlee a girl i dated in Jr High, has a degree from duke and is wrapping up law school
Kent my old business partner. He's an electrical engineer now.
Krstian kent's sister. I don't know what she is doing now
Amber my old fiancee. I sure as hell don't know what she is doing now and don't want to know lol but she was a good girl with a stead job and no bad habits
Shannon my oldest cousin, who is now the president of the LA black lawyers association
Michael, shannon's younger brother who got a degree from the university of Arkansas and plays basketball overseas in Turkey
between basketball, baseball, church, school, work, girls I've dated, friends in general i know every bit of 75-100 black people. I'm black BTW. no one else has 2 parents at home. a lot of them, including members of my own family don't even know who their dad is. some of them, turned out okay. I have a cousin who is 27 and has no clue who her dad is and she is in the military and does really well for herself.
But the vast majority of these single parent homes don't' have a chance in hell.
They don't work for shit because no one ever makes them work for shit. They don't know how to do home work because there is never anyone there to make them do homework. My mom and dad got a divorce but i was lucky in the sense I saw my dad everyday, he picked me up from school and would not let me play basketball or anything until my work was done. If I had some questions about something he would help me and if he didn't know he would call someone, usually shannon lol who did.
Until black women stop having 3-4 kids by 3-4 dudes, until the role of the father is brought back into the limelight, nothing is going to change.
Even if you bring the child's bad behavior to the attention of the single parent, what can they do? The are to busy working 2=3 jobs to make any real changes that can be enforced. If my dad was not around I would not have had a chance in hell there were days I did not see my mom until 10pm. The f**k can she tell me lol? how you going to ground me when you're not home? how you going to make sure my work is done when you're not home?
Then when the kid has no structure and they get older they not only don't have any skills, they don't have any guidance and they don't know how to just cut it on. They don't know how to work. So they turn to crimes.
