And again, it's important to recall that tax collections by the fed reached all time lows in the crisis which affected the balance of payments. Government took in less revenue and had to spend more in order to account for the loss of aggregate demand through the Stimulus bill and other measures.

The IMF may be critical of Britain's growth, but they in general support the austerity measures.
