I'm much more of a realist these days. Even though I have stances that I support, I think it's too ideal of a concept to simply consider yourself either conservative or liberal. Attempting to fit into ideal groups is why we see ideological purity being pushed left and right by the major parties, because god help you if you follow one position unpopular in your own party despite being a through and through Republican or Democrat. IMO disbanding the Iraqi military was a tough call; you had veterans that may have been good and loyal people that were put out of a job by it, which in turn made them despise the US and the new Iraqi government. That was 11 years ago though, so it's neither here nor now. ISIS represents the majority of Syrian rebels. Well-funded, well-trained and anti-Western. Why we chose sides in that fight is beyond me. Assad can take a hike, but how many beheading videos did ISIS need to put out when they were localized in Syria before this admin said "no funds for you?" Who knows. Arab Spring was completely mishandled by Obama and I think few would disagree.
And to think our biggest ally in fighting ISIS is going to be Iran? Dafuq? Is this Earth anymore?
I am not expecting Obama to be a foreign policy cowboy like Bush was, but have a f*cking backbone. If you draw lines in Syria and elsewhere, stand by them. If someone crosses those lines react in a fitting manner. If Putin disrespects you, get on his ass, don't do a sappy press conference. F*ck you. US presidents should be able to stick up for themselves. This is big boy politics and Putin and others smells fear from Obama.
