Why the f**k would the NRA involve themselves with non gun related issues? They aren't in the game of solving gun violence, they are in the game of protecting gun rights.
Even as a person who generally despises gun culture, I can take off the blinders long enough to understand that.

So in summation: there is money and shrillness on both sides of the gun debate, but the NRA also has swing voters on their side, so they win.
