liberals who lack self control might be driven to the absurdity that the gun is what makes the crime and focus on that but the focus on the flag is closer to the mark. i said closer, since it's not it

from accounts about this kid he went from partying with black people to hating them, repeatedly. he was on drugs himself, and i wouldn't be surprised at all if some black girl spurned him. this is no way excuses the behavior but it describes it as something being outside the gun possessing him to do this as anyone who advocates for gun control seems to think happens when people are in the presence of guns. that guns are fired billions of times each year without killing anyone must seem mystifying

I don't even view the confederate flag thing in the context of this kid though obviously his massacre is what revived the debate. It's a flag of treason. If some redneck wants to fly it (and I've seen plenty of them in rural PA so it's not exclusive to the south - anyone who wants to advertise their racism and hatred of America may get one) then it's free expression but no public property should display it except maybe a history museum.
