About 10 years ago I went to a co-workers retirement party at a restaurant. The company paid for it all. So at the table were snacks, and pitchers of soda and water.. The waitress comes over and asks us if we want any other drinks, like tea or coffee. I ask for a gin and tonic.. A hush fell over the room.. You would have thought I pissed in the salad bowl..
That's when it hit me times were a changing. In the 80's and 90's at retirement and Christmas parties the company would supply hard booze and kegs of beer.. By 2002-2003 when I ordered a gin and tonic it was taboo, I had become a dinosaur.
Now when me and the wife go out to dinner if I have 3-4 g and t's I give her the keys to drive home.. I KNOW I can handle 3-4 drinks, hell over the years I've drank literally thousands of g and t's.. 3 or 4 with dinner won't even bother me a little bit, but legally I'd probably be drunk. People still drink, A LOT.. But it is definitely looked at differently now.
Times have a changed..
