So your sole motivation here is not to keep guns/explosives out of the hands of terrorists, it's that you want to terminate any gov't "list."
Hmmm.
Let's say a well-known Mexican drug cartel kingpin wants to make a purchase of guns and a seller has access to this information via a gov't "list."
Should we sell to him, then? Because unless he walks in and says "I'm buying these for the Zetas," the seller wouldn't be any the wiser.
Does the gov't not provide a "list" of felony convictions which sellers can access? So you're for that, but against this.
Thoughts?
If a cop pulls me over for a traffic stop, he's going to run my license on a gov't list. Are you telling me we should deny him that access?
