What are the actual ambitions of the NRA?

Bringing up the Assault Weapon Ban was a political calculation. They knew it wouldn't happen but they figured it would turn the country against republicans and make democrats more popular. It was a miscalculation that backfired and cost the democrats political capital.

So illegal gun use is of no matter to the NRA? So why are they interfering in all attempts to do something about it? Because under the current system, it's out of control.

So, if you are truly concerned about those attempts not impacting your LEGAL constituent gun owners, I would think you'd be nothing short of ENTHUSIASTIC about getting illegal guns off the streets, lest we do an Australia.

Which makes perfect sense, if ultimately the point is to have as much guns and ammo circulating out there as humanly possible regardless of the consequences because the billions just keep rolling in.

Even I can understand that illegal gun owners don't give a rats f**k about laws. So why would an organization representing legal gun owners support laws that impact them but will have zero impact on criminals, who simply don't give a shit what the law says or doesn't say?

It is like demanding that a group trying to legalize pot should involve themselves in laws regarding organized crime, on the grounds that those groups won't pay taxes on their pot sales. It makes zero sense at all.
