Here's a scenario: What if Bundy had been a decent human being, as opposed to a walking stereotype of the most deeply ignorant, hateful, and despicable version of the hard right? What if he had been a principled patriot, making a stand against a real injustice, as opposed to being merely a petty and unrepentant criminal who refused to pay his trivially inexpensive land use fees? Imagine if he hadn't felt entitled to land that wasn't his own?
Imagine if he'd wasn't a racist.
Imagine that he wasn't a homophobe.
Imagine that he wasn't a generally hateful and small minded animal that deserves to die screaming in a garbage can fire.
The real tragedy is that an honorable, principled American making a stand against a strong-arming federal government didn't happen.
What we got instead was Bundy. A pathetic, fractional excuse for a man, spewing hatred and ignorance, who is utterly lacking in principle, and who was actually in the wrong. Even the crazed right wing radio nut jobs couldn't get away fast enough after they found out what he was.
We deserve better than Bundy. We need somebody that isn't going to reinforce every negative stereotype that goes with a funny hat.
