The Democrats are not likely to be able to do much to stop it. I expect the Republicans to dismantle the filibuster quickly come January. The real question is going to be how eye to eye Trump will be with the Republicans in Congress.

Dems should work with Trump on infrastructure spending and opposing free trade agreements. I agree with Sanders. They have to make it clear to the public though whether they have an alternative program.

Technically the US still has a functioning democracy, so can't throw the baby out with the bathwater even though Trump has destroyed most political norms. We have to defend democracy, and shutting down government could have the opposite effect of empowering Trump to further gut the system.

This is why we need a social movement outside Congress to make clear the opposition to Trump and for an alternative to the current system. I do support, however, passive resistance in the bureaucracy to unethical or unlawful procedures.

Oh and just realized another thing, if the Democrats actually take up some of the populist economic positions Trump has outlined, they could accelerate the split between Trump and the Republican establishment or prove that he's a fraud if he tries to walk back some of his economic promises. It's day-dreaming of course, because the Democratic establishment is equally if not more strategically incompetent, but one can hope with Sanders and Warren taking up leadership positions.

Fillon won the French Primary. The EU will soon be in shambles.

FWIW, it only took the Mayans 30 years to collapse entirely, the West is well on its way. Russia has been masterful here.
