It isn't like this is the only way Obama is promoting this... it is just one tool amongst many.
Having a web presence is very, very important. Good move.

I think there is still a lot we do not know about the power of twitter and twitter-like social media. Keep in mind this is a relatively young phenomenon. Is Twitter a reasonable way to contact representatives? No. There is no way of knowing if someone tweeting to a representative even lives in their district. I think what Obama is aiming for here is what many presidents have done in the past, and that's go around the media - directly to the people - and make a case for a program. Unfortunately, our republic has degenerated far enough into a democracy that such tactics work.
