Personally, I thought that it was a bit of a stupid prank to play with tragic consequences, but the level of opprobrium the Australian DJs are facing needs to be dialled back a bit. They seem genuinely sorry about the consequences of their stunt and the hatemail and death-threats they are dealing with is getting a bit too much. If one of them is driven to suicide, would the people who flamed them reflect on their own hypocrisy I wonder?

What a tragedy that what should have been a happy occasion (the announcement of the Cambridge's first child) has been marred with this. Let's hope it won't be compounded with even more tragedy. The girl in particular seems to be utterly devastated by what has happened...

You know who should get some blame.

The tabloid smut-merchants who did nothing but report how big a blunder this was for two days.

Far as im concerned they drove that woman to suicide.

Journalism in this country is f**k, we should just shoot them all (only fair way) and start again.

It was kinda of a stupid prank, but really that's all it was. What is unbelievable is the amount of fallout over this, holy shit what is wrong with people.

I agree, although I'm all for tarring and feathering the occasional Australian just for jollies.

To be honest I find it quite hard to believe their weren't other factors at play in this. Ultimately what happened was a tad embarrassing but not a major issue so I think some serious questions need to asked about how it resulted in a suicide. I think the management culture at the hospital needs to face serious investigation.

The DJs involved are not doing so well either - The general feel in Australia seems similar to opinions here, they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Their boss has also taken the heat for the prank, in another interview I cant find at the moment he said it was his call to play the piece or not

Maybe they should be given the opportunity to redeem themselves by doing some voluntary work and have it filmed for a tv or radio documentary? I don't think they should be fired because they still have to earn a living (and to be honest, as other people have pointed out, they aren't exactly the only people in broadcasting doing this sort of thing).
But perhaps now they should turn their careers into a more serious direction focusing on social issues like suicide prevention and helping people with mental health problems, something like that, just something to reduce their guilty consciences to a level that is more bearable and make sure that something positive happens because of this.

They shouldn't be fired, or punished in any way. They didn't do anything wrong - or maybe they did, but it was a level and type of wrong long viewed as socially acceptable.

This poor woman was hounded by the press prior to her death. The Daily Mail even published pictures ofher house. TThat's the real issue here not this stupid prank. Hot on the heels of leveson too.
