This kinda stuff happened all the time when I lived in big-C. They started posting armed guards at the schools in my neighborhood.
That said, we really, REALLY need to improve our mental health system in this country. Minnesota has a pretty good model I thought.

Injuries, not deaths when it involved only knives.
